ABOUT ECCC

The European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre (ECCC) is established on the basis of Regulation (EU) 2021/887 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 May 2021 establishing the European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre and the Network of National Coordination Centres. The ECCC is the European Union's (EU) main instrument for concentrating investment in cybersecurity research and development to develop industrial, technological and research capacities, capabilities and infrastructure in the field. The ECCC is based in Bucharest and is headed by Luca Tagliaretti.

Individual EU member states are represented in the ECCC Governing Board. The Governing Board has overall responsibility for the strategic direction and activities of the ECCC and oversees the implementation. The Czech Republic is represented in the ECCC Governing Board by NCISA.

ECCC Tasks

The ECCC aims to develop the EU's industrial, technological and research capabilities in the field of cyber security and to strengthen the EU's capacity and competitiveness in this area. The specific tasks of the ECCC are then defined in Article 5 of the EU Regulation 2021/887. The main tasks of the ECCC are:

  • development of the ECCC strategic agenda and monitoring of the implementation
  • coordination of NCCs through the Network and ensuring regular exchange of expertise
  • providing expert industrial, technological and research advice in the field of cyber security
  • facilitating collaboration and sharing of expertise among all relevant stakeholders, especially members of the Community;
  • supporting the commercialisation of cybersecurity products, services and processes that contribute to the ECCC's mission
  • providing support and technical assistance to start-ups, SMEs, micro-enterprises, associations, individual professionals and projects in the field of cyber security
